Background
Over
the years subdivision of the catchment has progressively
alienated important areas of bushland in the catchment
and this, combined with uncontrolled recreational use,
has resulted in silting of the lagoon and the creeks
feeding into the Lagoon as well as damage to the bushland.
Further, this development has introduced nutrient loads
which have impacted on the water quality of both the
Lagoon and its associated creek network.
For
more than a century development has taken place
on the low lying flood plains surrounding the
lagoon. The combined problems of potential flooding
of these developments and water quality issues
have resulted in a need for mechanical opening
of the lagoon which lowers the average water level.
We
seek an integrated and comprehensive management approach
to the conservation and use of Narrabeen Lagoon and
its catchment by a single authority.
